The Parish Church of
St. Stephen Hightown

Dear Couple

Thank you for looking us up on the internet to find out about getting married at St Stephen’s; and I hope you will find the following information helpful. Whether you are familiar with the church, or not, you will certainly be very welcome here.

To be married here you will need to satisfy one of these current legal requirements:

  1. Either one of you lives within the boundaries of the parish. That is, anywhere in Hightown.
  2. Either one of you doesn’t live here but does come to church regularly; and has put their name on the Electoral Roll, which is a list of church members.
  3. Either one of you has a qualifying connection with the parish; these are:
  4. One of you was baptized or prepared for confirmation in the parish.
  5. One of you has lived in the parish for six months or more at any time.
      • One of you has, at any time, regularly attended this church.
      • One of your parents has lived in the parish for six months or more in your lifetime.
      • One of your parents has regularly attended this church in your lifetime.
      • Either set of parents or grandparents were married in this church.

Provided that you satisfy one of these requirements you will be married by Banns, which will be called in church on three Sundays two months before your wedding date. Banns means announcing your full names and intentions in church at the main service. These may also need to be called in the church closest to where you live now.

Also on the website you will find a list of suggested wedding hymns for you to consider, a sheet with frequently asked questions and answers, a list of the costs. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further information or you would like to visit the church or book your date.
