St. Stephen’s church, Hightown, is integral to community life, welcoming and joyful in worship, and inspiring and loving in our ministry to children.

In our relationship with the community our mission is defined as being:

Integral to community life: Useful, relevant and helpful; visible, proactive and accessible; caring and supportive to all.

In our worship and church family life our mission is defined as being:

Welcoming and joyful in worship: Spirit-filled, faithful, true and loving; fully inclusive; innovative, balanced, reflective, learning and growing; attracting people to Christ; truly ecumenical; bound together in love and always living out our faith.

In our children’s work and worship our mission is defined as being:

Inspiring and loving in our ministry to children: Innovative; celebrating our children and young people; caring, nurturing and protective; educational and engaging; providing example-setting role models.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Make the church, through effective PR, more visible, to draw people to worship.
  2. Make the church building and environment attractive, to draw people.
  3. Create social activities and opportunities with wide appeal.
  4. Make the church relevant and supportive to the people of Hightown.
  5. Engage the community in the life of the church.

 

In our worship and church family life our mission is defined as being:

OBJECTIVES

  1. Create opportunities for people to experience worship and fellowship.
  2. Celebrate, and grow, our five congregations in their diversity.
  3. Provide frequent opportunities for all to come together as a family.
  4. Ensure that everyone can participate in church governance.
  5. Provide opportunities for spiritual growth and learning.
  6. Develop our links and shared mission in Hightown with Our Lady of Victories.

 

In our children’s work and worship our mission defined as being:

Inspiring and loving in our ministry to children: Innovative; celebrating our children and young people; caring, nurturing and protective; educational and engaging; providing example-setting role models.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Set up a Sunday School.
  2. Enable children to help in the liturgy.
  3. Provide regular activity days.
  4. Set up a summer Sports Day.
  5. Establish a youth club for the 13yrs + age group.
  6. Provide a Faith Group, led by young people.
  7. Enable participation of young people in the Worship Group.
  8. Educate the wider church family to be truly welcoming and appreciative of our children.
  9. Produce a Christian-themed Holiday Club.
  10. Appoint key “befrienders” to welcome and support new families.
  11. Provide a crèche area with activities.
  12. Form two groups, to explore practical ways to grow Family Praise (Ecumenical?) and “Peewits”.
  13. Establish a working group to explore the possibility of establishing a school in Hightown.
